Who is SumDim?
I was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and raised in Silicon Valley. I went to school here and graduated from college as well Magna Cum Laude with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. I was a Geek for many software development companies wearing many different hats. Some of the many roles I had were Sr. Technical Support, Systems Software Engineer, Lead Software Engineer, Lead Q/A Engineer, Project Management. I pretty much did it all until I became a consultant.
During the start of my career in the 1980’s, Silicon Valley was just taking fold. I wrote a lot of stuff in 8088 assembly language. Then, climbed aboard the Microsoft Windows 2.0 train and wrote device drivers and applications. Stuff like games, word processors, and scientific instrumentation. I was pretty good at C, C++, and Visual Basic too.
I’ve worked for various divisions of Electronic Arts, Xerox Palo Alto, The Learning Company, among others. Many of the companies I worked for were either bought out or went IPO.
In the latter part of my career, I went into web development and educated myself through additional college coursework. I ran a bunch of websites that in their day, were sort of famous.
From all this, I was fortunate to retire at an early age. I can afford to do now anything I want in life and annoy people. :O)
Websites, websites, websites!
Currently I run and develop a bunch of websites. Some of which I’ve have been in operation since the latter 90’s.
I was somewhat famous for developing a series of websites that catered to the MySpace user base. I happened to garner top Google SERP positions for many of the Myspace keywords which at the time were the most highly sought and trafficked. After that trend died, I went into web development and cut my teeth on WordPress, Drupal, HTML5, CSS3, and PHP.
Video Gaming Consoles
I’m not a diehard but one that enjoys playing video games. I’m not as quick and cunning as most of you young kids, but I can hang. My favorite game of all time is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. A game which I play often even to today.
My first computer was an Apple II+ back in the 1980’s. It was my first love. I learned how to program in Apple Basic, Pascal, and 6502 assembly language.
I own a bunch of gaming consoles including:
- Atari 2600
- Apple II+
- Nintendo NES Original
- Super Nintendo
- Nintendo GameCube
- Nintendo Wii
- PS One
- PS 3
- PS 4
- Microsoft XBox One
And of course I play on my personal computer as well. I have bought about 20 computers over my lifetime. Probably should have bought a Lambourghini instead.
The games I own are too many to list. I probably have about a 300+ games library. Looking over at my bookshelf I see:
- Call of Duty AW3
- Plants and Zombies
- Grand Theft Auto 5
- SimCity Limited Edition
- a ton of others
The SumDim Username
I came up with this alias, SumDim, while sitting down eating a Chinese Dim Sum bun.
When Call of Duty prompted me for a username I was dumbfounded. I didn’t know what to use. I stared at my bun and reversed what I was eating into Sum Dim. It is a play on words for Some DimWit too.
